Giovanni Battista Bassani has few surviving works from his mysterious life. For this release, his oratorio Giona is presented. Giona was debuted at the court of Francesco II d’Este, Duke of Modena and Reggio, which was surely a milestone in Bassani’s career. Performing this work is “Les Nations,” an ensemble which specializes in rediscovering oratorios from the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
