Description
The first of two Haydn recordings from Robin Ticciati and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra presents a âD Majorâ overview of Franz Joseph Haydnâs symphonic repertoire. From Haydnâs early period the Baroque influenced Symphony No. 31, âHorn Signalâ has an almost Gothic tinged feel with highly contrapuntal elements. Counterpoint is found in abundance throughout Symphony No. 70, a work written in the devastating aftermath of a fire on the EsterhĂĄzy grounds, destroying buildings, instruments and consuming music scores. One of the famous âLondon Symphoniesâ, No. 101, âThe Clockâ has its focus firmly on the future. Robin Ticciati is in his fifth season as Principal Conductor of the SCO. Gramophone named Robin one of the top ten young âconductors on the verge of greatnessâ and one of 'Tomorrow's Icons'. â[an] exhilaratingly free performance of The ClockâŠthe tick-tock Andante had a fragile grandeur that was disarming and poignant.â (The Guardian)
