This Bella Musica release of two historical recordings captured nearly a quarter-century apart features the conductor Carl August Bünte (b. 1925), a pupil of Sergiu Celibidache who for 24 years led the Berlin Symphony, the Kansai Philharmonic, one of the two major orchestras resident in Osaka, Japan, pianist Hiroko Miyamoto and the aforementioned Berlin Symphony in performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in c, op. 18 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in d, op. 120. + Ms. Miyamoto is currently a professor at the Osaka University of Education.
