When Thielemann became principal conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle in 2012, he surprised many people for giving special attention to forgotten works from the periods of upheaval before and after WWI—works closely connected to Dresden, some having premiered with the Staatsakpelle and its predecessor, the Hofkapelle.
